Home Learning Teacher

Description

The Home Learning Teacher creates and delivers engaging lessons using The Laurel School of Princeton’s curriculum and pedagogy in a one to one setting or small groups of students in grades 1 – 7. The Home Learning Teacher promotes, tailored, in depth and enthusiastic learning in “core” subject areas. The teacher adheres to the Laurel School’s curriculum standards, collects, keeps, and records data. Shares detailed records of student performance with parents or guardians.

Work Schedule:

  • Home Learning Teachers will provide online lessons and/or in home instruction on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Monday – Friday
  • Times may vary depending on location
  • The Home Learning Teacher will have one day assigned as a “work day” for lesson planning, parent outreach, grading and record keeping

Salary & Benefits:

  • This is a full-time, salaried position and comes with all benefits entitled to all salaried employees of The Newgrange School of Princeton, Inc.

Reports To:

  • The Home Learning Teacher reports the Laurel School’s Head of School

Responsibilities:

  • Creates a warm and encouraging environment with students while promoting high expectations for academic achievement
  • Develops lesson plans which meet the established Laurel School model and pedagogy
  • Adapts and reassesses lesson plans to meet specific student needs, comply with newly implemented guidelines or rules, and update relevant information including new developments in education
  • Manages the diverse ability levels of students
  • Adapts curriculum to fit student needs while maintaining overall student progress
  • Assesses and records student development, while identifying areas which need attention and improvement
  • If needed, conducts 1:1 parent virtual meetings
  • In conjunction with the parents and Laurel School’s Core Competencies, develops a Goals & Benchmarking document
  • Identifies, along with the Goals & Benchmarking document, areas of achievement for certificate acknowledgment
  • Communicates with all other staff members involved with the student and parents 
  • Communicates with parents as per school guidelines on a regular basis, including presenting student progress reports through weekly progress communication
  • Continues to improve understanding of evidence-based practices for students who have learning difficulties and content area curriculum
  • Attends and takes part in school meetings on curriculum, organization, and guidelines, either in-person or via Zoom.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Special Education/ Elementary-Middle School Certification, required
  • Orton-Gillingham / Wilson Reading, preferred, or willing to be trained in Wilson Reading and/or Project READ
  • Will be required to sign an exclusivity agreement
  • Background checks as required by statute
  • Clean driving record
  • Must be willing to travel to student homes and work remotely

  • Has general education knowledge in reading, language arts, math and general science
  • Is understanding of assessments and data
  • Is able to work with parents who have high expectations and may have complex home situations
  • Is able to develop a supportive relationship with the child
  • Has creative problem-solving skills,
  • Has patience, empathy, is engaging and nurturing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills,
  • Developed organizational skills,
  • Is able to develop relationships with parents and/or guardians
