Laurel School students learn to love learning again! In the classroom, our students rediscover the joy and empowerment that comes from mastering new skills and understanding new ideas. The Laurel school staff mindfully provides rigorous instruction, while acknowledging the inherent struggle that “school” presents for children who learn differently.
We strive to maintain a balance of pushing students to achieve their potential through intervention and remediation while making independent learning accessible. Confidence and a love for learning are built in both ways. Our teachers design learning experiences for the students that build not only fundamental academic skills, but also executive functioning, self-awareness, and self-advocacy skills. These are essential pieces to our program and are woven throughout all classes that the students take.
Our program is as unique as the students we serve. At the Laurel School, our teaching is grounded in research and based on diagnostic prescriptive methodology. We strive to reach every learner where they are and adapt our teaching methods until each student learns and grows. All the learning pathways are addressed in the classroom: visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic. Students at Laurel learn to utilize the tools they need to help them become independent and successful learners, but most importantly, they develop the mindset necessary to take risks, persevere, learn independently, and believe in their own potential.
Why Choose The Laurel School of Princeton?
Our teachers have years of experience teaching children with learning differences and are certified to instruct using Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Language Training® programs. When it comes to math and science instruction, they use a multisensory and inquiry-based approach. At The Laurel School of Princeton, we use technology whenever possible to keep students connected and learning. We are leaders in leveraging the unique strengths of our students. For example, we provide them with a Maker Space to develop their material reasoning and are the first school in New Jersey to offer three courses of the NoticeAbility curriculum, a program specifically designed to leverage the talents of dyslexic children. Outstanding Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy Services are also available for an additional fee. Please contact Admissions to find out how to enroll your child.
